Properly submitted proposed bylaw
changes will be read at the second regular meeting in February and
the first and second nettings in March and voted on immediately
following the third reading.
2010 LOCAL LODGE 1976 ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP
AWARD: $750.00. The award check will be given in the name of
the student and school when confirmation is received.
ELIGIBILITY: Available to members and dependents of members
(as defined by the IRS) of L.L. 1976 in good standing for at least one
year. Applicants must be enrolled full or part time in an accredited
program. Award priorities will be as follows: Graduating High School
seniors first, followed by all other eligible applicants.
ESSAY RULES: The subject of the 2010 essay competition will
be: Prior to the pivotal role of
organized labor eradicating child labor from manufacturing during the
industrial revolution, the abuse of children in the work place was
common. What role does modern society have expanding this protection to
all children in light of a global economy?
All essays must be a minimum of 1000 words and a maximum of
1500 words typed on 8 ˝” by 11” white bond paper, saved on a disk and
e-mailed to
robert.hogan@usairways.com. The title must be placed at the top of
the paper and no entrants name or identification may appear on the essay
paper. A bibliography of sources for Essay material must be included.
The work must be the work of the entrant or the entrant will be
disqualified. The Essay will become the property of LL 1976 and may be
published in the L.L. 1976 Newsletter or Web Page using the contestants
name and picture. Failure to complete the application form in full will
result in the applicant’s disqualification. The award must be picked up
at a L.L. 1976 monthly meeting.
TIME TABLE: The Essay Competition will be open February 5 and
entries must be postmarked by midnight April 30. The winner will be
announced upon completion of the judging process.
JUDGING: The winner will be chosen by an independent panel of
judges appointed by the education committee. The decision of the judges
is final.
HANDLING: Upon receipt, essays will be separated from their
entry form and a number assigned to each. All judging will be done using
the assigned number. When an essay is chosen the committee will match
the number with the appropriate entry form to identify the contest
winner.
MAILING: Entries must be mailed and postmarked no later than
midnight April 30. The entry form and essay must be mailed to the L.L.
1976 address shown on the entry form. The word ‘ESSAY’
must appear in the lower left hand corner of the envelope.
