What Makes the IAM Contract So Special?
Even negotiated under the pressure of bankruptcy proceedings, the IAM US Airways contract is still superior to the Teamster-America West
agreement which was negotiated outside of bankruptcy.
An IAM contract means more job security
The IAM contract mandates 9.1 US Airways Mechanic & Related employees per aircraft while the Teamsters settle for only 6.6 on America
West aircraft.
IAM negotiators fight for the best contracts
The Teamsters lowered the industry bar so much so that a bankrupt US Airways pushed for a contract that mirrored its America West pact. Even in
bankruptcy, IAM negotiators refused to sink to such lows.
IAM contracts protect your work from being farmed out
Under the IAM Agreement, heavy maintenance work that America West subcontracted to El Salvador is not allowed. That means that 300-400
Mechanic & Related workers will gain jobs when that work comes under the IAM agreement.
A vote jeopardizes everything
If the Teamsters force an election and less than 50 percent of all eligible voters participate, including employees on leaves of absence or furlough
at either carrier, there will be no union representation for the Mechanic & Related craft on the merged carrier, no contract to enforce and no limit to
the employment terms the company can impose.
